1. 🌴 Carranza Backheel Meg Opens Preseason Scoring in 1-1 Draw

A Julian Carranza backheel meg off a Quinn Sullivan cross opened the preseason scoring account for the Philadelphia Union in a 1-1 draw with Austin FC at Al Lang Stadium on Tuesday night.

Carranza saw his first action of the preseason after he was scratched from the lineup that faced Flamengo on Sunday afternoon.

Daniel Pereira found an equalizer for Austin in the second half but head coach Jim Curtin was able to get minutes for 23 players, including MLS SuperDraft pick Francesco Montali in goal, Union II players CJ Olney, Neil Pierre and David Vazquez.

2. 🇭🇺 Goalzdag Is Back

A weird report about Daniel Gazdag being offered up on loan while he was still training in a place that was definitely not sunny Florida fueled some speculation and concern about the Union’s star midfielder.

But for now those fears can be put to the side.

Gazdag rejoined the team on Tuesday at Al Lang Stadium. He didn’t feature in the preseason match against Austin FC. But assuming all went well with what was reported to be him finalizing a green card it’s good news from a roster perspective, too.
