Happy Saturday, readers. Jack McGlynn and Nathan Harriel were among the 25 names announced in a live roster unveiling in San Antonio for the upcoming USMNT camp. It’s the first of hopefully many camps for the young emerging stars.

1. 🇺🇸 McGlynn and Harriel Get January Camp Call

Jack McGlynn and Nathan Harriel are heading to Orlando for their first senior national team camp.

McGlynn and Harriel along with a third player (Brian White) with past experience playing in the Philadelphia Union youth system received their first call-ups among the 25 players called in by head coach Gregg Berhalter.

White played for Jim Curtin on the Philadelphia Union U17 team that won the 2012 Generation adidas Cup. The academy was in its early form then and brought in players from area clubs to train and compete in competitions. White grew up in Flemington, N.J. and played for PDA.

McGlynn and Harriel, both recruited to the academy from outside the area later in their youth careers, enjoyed notably steady seasons of improvement.

The all-MLS roster was announced at a news conference in San Antonio on Friday. The camp will run Jan. 8-16 in Orlando. The U.S. plays Slovenia on January 20 at Toyota Field in San Antonio.

I asked Gregg Berhalter for his thoughts on the inclusion of Nate Harriel and his feelings on the development pipeline that the Union has created over the past ten years.

2. ☀️ Union Release Preseason Schedule

The Union will begin full-team training in-market on Sunday, January 14, following medical clearances and physicals, and will depart for Clearwater, Fla. on Monday, January 15. While in Clearwater, the team will play in four scheduled friendlies.

Following their final preseason friendly on February 14, the Union will depart for Costa Rica in preparation for their match against Deportivo Saprissa on Tuesday, February 20 at 10 p.m. ET in the first leg of the 2024 Concacaf Champions Cup. They will then return home to host Chicago Fire FC on February 24 at 7:30 p.m. ET in their 2024 MLS regular season home opener.

Philadelphia native John McCarthy will be on the other side of El Trafico next season with the LA Galaxy.
Another veteran goalkeeper from the area signed a new deal yesterday. Pottstown native Nicole Barnhart is back with Washington Spirit on a one-year deal.
Former Bethlehem Steel FC star and Union Academy coach James Chambers has been promoted to head coach of the Colorado Springs Switchbacks. Former Steel FC assistant and Reading United head coach Stephen Hogan was promoted to Sporting Director and former Reading United gaffer Alan McCann was promoted to Technical Director.
